Let's Snack: Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin Seeds

We’re here to introduce the benefits of another nutritious snack food: Pumpkin seeds! They have so many health benefits, including being naturally cholesterol-free, gluten-free, and a low glycemic index food.

They’re loaded with antioxidants which help protect against disease, and they contain tryptophan (the same chemical in turkey that makes us sleepy) which helps your body create melatonin for good sleep.

Did you know that pumpkin seeds are the only alkaline-forming seeds? Pumpkin seeds are also a good source of plant protein; One serving of pumpkin seeds (around 30g) offers almost 10 grams of protein. They’re also a great source of magnesium, which helps regulate blood sugar and blood pressure and benefits the heart overall. Pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc, which helps the immune system and a bunch of other regulatory processes.

You can receive the benefits of pumpkin seeds with either roasted or raw seeds. Raw seeds provide more nutrition as roasted foods, in general, take away some nutritional value by altering the food.

Sprinkle them on your salad or eat a handful as a treat during the day- You can’t go wrong!
