Fall Fruit - The Pomegranate

FALL FRUIT: THE POMEGRANATE

It’s pomegranate season! These tasty fruits are a staple in mediterranean and middle eastern dishes. Pomegranates are juice fruits that contain hundreds of juicy seeds called arils. Arils can be sprinkled on salads, used for cooking, or can even be juiced and consumed as a liquid. The non-juiced aril contains lots of hearty fiber. These fruits have recently gained traction as a miracle food, primarily consumed for their anti-inflammatory effects and their strong antioxidant properties. Recent studies show that pomegranate juice seems to help with verbal and visual memory in seniors for those drinking the juice daily over a period of time. Regular consumption can also help improve gut health, digestion, and can protect from type-2 diabetes and obesity. Consult with your doctor before making any regular changes to your diet, but consider adding pomegranate!?
